Note that with regard
to all reported tonnage, figures cannot accurately
reflect insight into volume disposed as data is
a combination of mass and gross weight i.e. disposal
of PCBs in ballasts, capacitors as well as pure
PCB oil (Askarel).
By the ban in 1977, 40,000 tonnes of PCBs are
reported to have been imported into Canada. A
1986 report from the Canadian Council of Resource
and Environmental Ministers relays 16,000 tonnes
(40%) unaccounted for. Data from 1995 reported
that 8,800 kg (22 %) had been destroyed, 27% in
use, 20% stored and 31% was unaccounted for (Hilborn,
Environment Canada, 1997).
SHTC* reports between 4 to 5 thousand tonnes of
PCB waste treated/yr (1999 = 5,300 tonnes, 2000
= 4,256 tonnes).

According to a
TEPA survey in 1992, there were totally 82,091 PCBs-contained
(over 1,000ppm)capacitors and other electric equipments
registered with local authorities, plus another
55.223 MT of PCBs oil in storage.
According to Tredi Tech Co., one of the two authorized
PCBs waste treatment plant in Taiwan, 4,000 MT.

The liquid PCBs
that amount of approximately 5,500 ton were incinerated
from 1987 to 1989. The amount of 1,778 ton that
carbonless paper was incinerated on pilot study
in Tokyo bay from 1977 to 1979.
In Kaneka Corporation that one of PCB (Kanechlor)
production manufacture, it storage PCBs that recovery
from all parts of the country. Their PCB that
the amount of 5,500 ton were incinerated from
1987 to 1989.
