1) Tobacco

Tobacco smoke contains many harmful substances that are known to cause lung cancer, serious lung disease and respiratory problems. Studies have shown a link between smoking and allergies. Pregnant women that smoke during pregnancy are exposing the fetus to these substances as well.

Compared to other risk factors, such as exposure to insects (dust mites), mold, eggs and milk products, tobacco smoke appears to be the worst of all.

The best way to avoid allergic reactions and atopy is to stop smoking. Even if only one person in the house smokes, the children are at risk. The result from prohibiting smoking at home will be a reduction in atopy. What a blessing!
